Firefox 3 extension compatibility

January 14th, 2008

One of my non-metrics related tasks is to work with chofmann on Firefox 3 extension compatibility. This involves out reaching to developers, tracking tons of bugs, and playing santa (free stuff, woo!) for all the awesome extension creators.

We’ve set a goal to get 95% (by usage) of extensions ready for Firefox 3 by ship date. I’ve posted the current status over at the metrics blog…

Will this also be done for themes? Themes, like extensions, need serious updating to work with FF3 supporting all new features (like Awesomebar), and to include all fixes in the theme area.

I’m unable to receive help for my extension Richscrollbar that is compatible with FF3b2 and incompatible with FF3b3pre.
Documentation is poor for deeply usage of XBL

Ha, ha. More than a third of my extensions – sorry, “Add-ons” – don’t work, so I’ve gone back to FF2.

Why isn’t there a tool to test them before FF3 installs itself?
