It’s been a great time…

June 5th, 2006

… but my last day as an employee at the Mozilla Corporation is June 9th. By the end of next week I will have worked for Mozilla for exactly 1 year.

I thought it would be appropriate to talk about my experience at Mozilla via a chronological “highlights reel”. So yeah, here it is…

Whew!

Surely I left plenty-o-experience and people out, sorry about that… I’m human! (heart)

So, what’s next? In a couple weeks I’ll be moving across the country (NYC) to work for Google. Why? Well, it’s an experience thing. Mozilla has treated me extremely well and it is really hard to just get up and leave, but I’m still young and impressionable, so I need diverse work experience. I’m excited about learning completely new things, meeting completely new people, and understanding a completely different company.

I have no idea what I am doing after the summer is over. Nor do I have any idea what I’ll be doing when I graduate from college (spr ‘07).

I would especially like to thank the “powers that be” at Mozilla for supporting students. My heart is filled with joy because this year we have more students than ever working for the project.

So yeah, thanks for the amazing experience!

PS: If anyone is in NYC this summer around July 16 — I’ll be having my 21er! Parrrtay

You forgot to mention the time you spilled the slurpee at 7-11, looked utterly confused, then left the guy to clean it up. :)

It was good working with you — good luck in NYC. See you when you get back.

  2. shaver Says:

It has been an unmitigated pleasure working with you, and I hope you have as much fun at Google in NYC as I’ve had working with you. They’re lucky to have you, and you will definitely be missed.

Glad to hear that you’re going to be on the east coast, though!

    Mike

  3. Rafael Says:

You were a good booth babe and schwag collector.

  4. Deb Says:

I’ll miss ya, polvi. You were a driving force behind getting developer.mo off the ground, and I couldn’t have done it without you. Thanks again for being such a ninja.

  5. Schrep Says:

Polvi - you rock and we’ll miss you. Learn lots and have fun in NYC. Don’t be a stranger neither.

  6. Preed Says:

Meeting and hacking with you at the SVLUG Hack Fest was cool.

I remember thinking to myself at the time “Wow, this guy works on Firefox?! That’s so cool!! I wish I could work on Firefox all day…”

In my mind, I thought it would be fun to work on open source code all day… but I didn’t really understand that what makes working here rewarding is all the smart, fun people around. You were one of the people that helped me realize that it really is all about the people.

    Good luck, Polvi!

And I expect you to post videos of you doing yoyo tricks in Times Square and on the Statue of Liberty’s torch!! :-)

  7. Paul Kim Says:

Polvi: lots of luck in the Big Apple. Break a leg!

  8. marcia Says:

thanks for all the support and good luck in the Big Apple. Glad you enjoyed all the schwag - make sure to send pics of when you base jump off of the Statue of Liberty wearing your Firefox shirt.

  9. Dave Miller Says:

Thanks for the year of help, Polvi! It was a real lifesaver to have you on board when you first started, picking up the slack when I was buried, and you never slowed down. There’s so much stuff we pulled off in Mozilla IT this last year that we never would have gotten done without you. Boy are we ever going to miss you. :)

    Good luck in New York!

  10. Robert Accettura Says:

Woohoo! Another East Coast guy! And finally a non-Canadian east coast person!!!! We’ll slowly take over… slowly… it will happen.

  11. Mitchell Baker Says:

Polvi in NYC, now there’s an image :-)

It’s amazing to me how many people are drawn to the Mozilla project at just the right moment, when they bring desparately needed help to the project and also good things to their own lives. Polvi, you’re unquestionably in this group. We’ll miss you — you helped move us to a new level. It’ll be great to see what antics you dream up in the new era.

    Mitchell

  12. Zack Says:

It’s been fun working with you! You are a brilliant kid. Best of luck in the NYC!
