1.5.0.2 release, sysadmin style
April 19th, 2006The Firefox 1.5.0.2 release was intense! And by intense, I mean a non-event. We pushed updates to 10’s of millions of clients without any major server-side hiccups. I think this is best exemplified by an email from my mom, “My update took at least 1.5 seconds. Pretty darn fast.” Keep in mind that my mom is the sort of user that calls when she drags the Firefox icon off the dock, “Where did my FoxFire go!?!?!?”.
So yeah, “here here” to some darn good sysadmining (dave, aravind, mrz, oremj, and justin) on top of an overall smooth release .

Yes. Firefox update rules.
It’s all about trust baby, and I don’t mind Firefox making its self better for my browsing pleasure.

How come I’ve never seen exact numbers for Firefox updates. This “10’s of millions of clients” is the best I’ve seen. Those numbers would give a really accurate indication of how many Firefoxes are actually in use in the wild, as opposed to the meaningless Downloaded numbers.
Is this a marketing tactic? Is Mozilla turning into a typical secretive evil corp?

No, it’s english prose.
As of this second we have see 32,053,558 partial updates and 13,742,175 full updates (the client will attempt a partial update first). “10’s of millions”
